How to Determine your Core Values!

Personal Values!

Today I’m going to talk about core values!

First, ya know when people tell you to just be yourself?

I used to be confused about what that really meant.

We’re often told to “be yourself,” “show up as your true self,” or “be your genuine self,” but what do these phrases really mean?

Showing up as yourself means you’re in sync with your values!

John C. Maxwell says “When values, thoughts, feelings, and actions are in alignment, a person becomes focused and character is strengthened.”

What are Core Values?

Core values are the beliefs that guide and shape your behaviors.

They represent what you consider important, and meaningful, in your life.

These values reflect your priorities and help you navigate challenges, make choices, and interact with others in a way that feels authentic.

In order to align with your values, it’s important to set boundaries.

Boundaries are the lines you draw to shape your desired life, and represent what you accept or reject and empower you to define your personal space!

What Stops us from Honoring our Values?

How to Determine your Core Values!🩸 We say we want to be healthy with no pain, yet we continue to make poor food choices, and put exercise on the back burner.

🔺 We say we want to spend quality time with our partner, yet we scroll on social media for hours every night instead of having live conversations.

🩸 We say we want to save money, yet we keep buying lattes on the way to work, and eating lunch out.

🔺 We say we want to create friendships, yet we sit inside watching TV, scrolling social media, or complaining.

🩸 We say we’d like a clean uncluttered house, yet our houses are filled with so much junk that we think we need.

🔺 We say we’d like quiet time, yet our calendars are full of unnecessary events and meetings.

Poor choices and decisions, can frequently block our progress and steer us off course away from things that matter.

We make these poor choices because we prioritize others’ needs over our own, doubt our worthiness, find challenges daunting, say we’re to tired, and would rather complain than take action.

Establishing boundaries allows us to align our actions with our values, allowing our authentic selves to shine through.

When you identify your core values, you gain a clear direction to strive for.

If your actions deviate from your core values, you could unintentionally be following someone else’s. Therefore, it’s crucial to ask yourself if you’re living in accordance with your own values or adopting someone else’s?

Alignment and Misalignment!

Here are a couple of situations where one might feel out of sync with their values. These examples demonstrate how setting boundaries can help you get back on track and live according to your values.

Map Where you Want to Go!

Personal Values! Each person has their own set of priorities and values, so again, do you live based on your values or someone else’s?

Values are an important part of self-care.

It’s helpful to figure out where you are in life at this very moment, and it’s just as important to map out where you want to go.

Kind of like a roadmap, how do you get from point A to point B?

This is where the work comes in.

When you know what you value in life, you have something to work toward.

Figure out what you want, and then set boundaries so you can reach your destination.

Aligning with your values is how you show up as your true self.

When it comes to values and setting boundaries, I’ve gone through the struggles, done the research, read the books and continue to work on myself, and perhaps you’d like to do this work for yourself too.

Check out the Beyond boundaries Blueprint, which is a five step method for establishing boundaries.

Once you take the time to figure out what you value in life, you can set boundaries in order to align with those values!
