How to Vacation with Allergies!

Going on vacation can be fun, yet challenging especially if we suffer from allergies and are sensitive to toxins.
Of course, our destinations are cleaned before arrival, but many times they are cleaned with scented or toxic products.
Toxic products can cause allergies, headaches and sometimes causes nausea.
Unfortunately, places other than our homes are tough to allergy proof!
In many vacation destinations, scented cleaners are used in the bathroom, and on the carpet, furniture, and windows.
The washed linens may contain fragrances as well.
If you suffer from allergies and sensitivities, it’s best to call your vacation destination with concerns (in advance) to see if they can help.
Here are some things to request before you go on vacation.
“Allergy-friendly rooms are a part of this growing trend. These rooms use state-of-the-art air purifiers, mattress and pillow encasings and special cleaning techniques to remove harmful irritants such as germs and airborne mold and protect guests from other allergens like dust mites” according to AllergyAsthmaNetwork.com.
Additional items to request to make your stay more comfortable:
- Restaurant onsite or walking distance to coffee shops and restaurants
- Free parking
- Quiet area not near loud traffic
- Flat Screen TV
- A coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator
Many vacation spots can’t accommodate everything, but why not try?
It’s important to make these requests because it’s your home away from home and you’ll have more fun if you’re comfortable.
