Why is it important to practice self-care?

Sometimes when we feel physical pain, it’s easy to pinpoint and take care of, but what about when we are feeling emotional pain such as guilt, loss or loneliness?

It’s crucial to take care of our emotions and minds with the same diligence we take care of our bodies, and that means practicing self-care!

Self-care encourages us to maintain a healthy relationship with ourselves so we can transmit good feelings to others.

We can’t give to others what we don’t possess.

While some may think self-care as selfish, it’s far from that.

“Being selfish means there’s a desire to take from others to their detriment, whereas self-care is about replenishing your resources without depleting someone else’s” according to Hello Giggles.

It’s OK to Practice Self-Care by Putting Ourselves First!

It’s OK to put ourselves first because self-care is an important part of managing stress and can help us stay happy and healthy.

Taking time to care for ourselves regularly makes us better caretakers for others.

We are the most affected by decisions we make, so if we are sacrificing our own self-care by saying yes to things we do not want to do, it’s best to say no!

Saying “no” actually means we have boundaries and know our value and respect ourselves enough to stand up for our beliefs.

Make Choices That are Best for Our Well-Being!

Putting everyone else’s needs ahead of our own, gets in the way of productivity and creates mental and physical exhaustion.

We’re more resilient and better able to handle life’s stresses when we’re feeling our best both physically and emotionally.

Practicing self-care isn’t just exercising and eating right, it’s much more!

It’s taking care of our emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, and social health!

Common techniques include meditation, yoga, and mindfulness, and there are many other ways to care for ourselves.
