11 Tips to Manage Allergies During Pollen Season!

Do you dread pollen season?
Pollen rears its ugly head, without fail, every Spring!
For at least 35 million Americans, it triggers a nasty allergic reaction that can make it downright miserable for months on end.
Some days have higher pollen levels than others, and constant sneezing, wheezing, and itching can be unbearable.
It’s helpful to be aware of the pollen count in your area, so you can plan accordingly.
Find a reliable pollen website that regularly updates pollen counts for your area, and then make a point to check in regularly.
With the pollen count information, we can plan strategies to help lessen our reaction to pollen!
If pollen is going to be high, there are simple tricks to help keep us from being affected by the pollen.
Here are 11 tips to use during high pollen days:
If you haven’t seen an allergist and notice allergies during Spring or other times of year, set up an appointment!
Here are some tests that might be performed by your allergist:
Scratch Test – This test checks for immediate allergic reactions to different substances at once and is usually done to identify allergies to pollen, mold, pet dander, and dust mites.
The person performing the test (usually a nurse) will look at the skin on your forearm or back and clean it with alcohol.
They’ll mark and label areas on the skin with a pen, then place a drop of a potential allergen on each of the marks.
They will then scratch the outer layer of your skin to let the allergen in.
After the test, your allergist will use the results of your test to come up with a treatment plan.
Spirometry Test – This is where you blow into a tube to measure your airflow.
Some offices make it look like blowing out candles on a birthday cake.
Blood Test – A blood test can measure your immune system’s response to particular foods.
A blood sample can be taken in your doctor’s office, then sent to a medical lab.
