How to Let Go of the Past!

How to Let Go of the Past!

Are you focused on past hurt and feel like you don’t have the ability to move on?

Many times we find ourselves continuously thinking about who hurt us, what went wrong, or what could have been.

We stay paralyzed replaying the past with an endless loop of stories in our head, which causes us to stay stuck, preventing true healing.

We continuously obsess about who disappointed us, and things that didn’t turn out the way we hoped they would.

It’s impossible to move forward if our energy is tied up in something that’s already done and over.

The reality is, those moments have already happened!

The more we dwell on them, and repeat the never ending loop of thoughts and stories, the more they control the present.

By repeating the same stories over and over again, it doesn’t actually solve anything.

We just hand our power over to a past life that no longer exists.

Choose to Leave the Past in the Past!

Leave the Past in the Past! So, how do we move forward?

We can consciously choose to leave the past in the past, focus on the present, and commit to shaping our future, which requires deliberate effort.

It’s important to get clarity about the kind of life we want, and treat it as a true commitment, not something saved for later.

This shift in mindset can change everything, because when we’re creating the life we want, amidst challenges like work, family responsibilities, or health issues, we simply don’t have time to keep reliving what’s behind us.

This isn’t something to squeeze in, when we have a quiet moment.

It needs to take precedence and become what matters most.

Our happiness, peace, and future depend on it.

Stop Blaming Others!

Stop Blaming Others! At some point, we need to stop blaming others and take responsibility for the life we’re creating.

Brooke Castillo of the Life Coach School podcast makes a good point about blame, “It feels good in the moment to be able to blame someone else and make them take responsibility for how you feel or for something that happened.

It’s like abdicating responsibility for your own empowerment, and it is completely disempowering.

It’s like someone else is in charge of me. You give all your power away when you do that, and I want you to resist the urge to do that for your own sake.

Think of it this way. If someone else is responsible for how I feel, then I have to depend on them if I want to change how I feel.

How many of you want to depend on that person that you’re blaming for how you feel?

Stop giving emotional energy to what’s already over.

Staying past focused isn’t getting us any closer to healing.

Create a Life Plan!

You can’t change the past, but you can decide what happens next. Here are a few steps to move forward:

💥  Hyper focus and get ridiculously clear on what you want your life to look like, and create a life plan.
🌟  Know there will be obstacles and plan for them, because they’re helping you get to the future that’s waiting for you.
💥  Break your plan into micro steps, to move you in the right direction.
🌟  Take the first step now, to create momentum and build confidence.
💥  Quit blaming others and let people be exactly who they are, it’s not your job to fix them.
🌟  Create distance from people or situations where you feel triggered and keep growth as your top priority.
💥  Keep moving forward.

If you’re feeling anxious, stuck or triggered often, and it’s shaping your decisions, it’s okay to ask for help.

Working with a therapist, or coach can help you break the cycle and help you shift back to the life that’s available and waiting for you. An anxiety recovery center providing inpatient and outpatient services, may also serve as an option, where the environment is truly focused on your healing.

OCDRecovery.com explains that “If you have been through difficult events in your life, trust me, no matter how bad they were, you do NOT have to define your personality by them. Yes, they impact you, but it’s not irreversible “damage”. You don’t have to look at yourself with helplessness. You can move past them, you can define your life yourself. Nobody else can or has to”.

Find the courage, take your power back and live the life you deserve.

Being trapped in your past will eventually rob you of your future.” -Sheryl Brady.
