Resources To Safely Dispose Expired Medications!

Normally I’m pretty clutter free, but one day I looked in the closet and found the dreaded medicine tub! We’d accumulated medications for 10 -15 years and can’t believe what I found!
I hate taking meds, so when I get a prescription (or even an over the counter drug) I rarely use it.
Here’s what I accumulated:
- 2 or 3 sinus sprays that I never opened
- 4 tubes of Cortizone
- an inhaler that I never needed
- Heartburn meds
- 4 or 5 cough syrups that created a sticky mess.
- 4 or 5 boxes of sinus and headache medications
Most of this stuff expired years ago!
You can use these items after the expiration, but is it safe or effective 4 or 5 years after the expiration?
It’s not good to flush drugs down the toilet, because it can get into the sewers and drinking water.
Where does one dispose old medications?
Every year there is a “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day“, where you can dispose of your drugs to local law enforcement agencies.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
“Dispose My Meds” has a website you can go to.
Type in your zip code and find the nearest location.
Many police stations and fire stations have a drug disposal bin, you’ll need to check in your area.
Do you have expired medications? Please leave a comment!
