Why an Early Morning Exercise Routine Works!

“Wake up early and tackle the day before it tackles you.”
–Evan Carmichael
π Iβve always been an early riser, which I inherited from my Dad because he was king of the early risers.
When I was 18 he took up running and invited me to join him daily at 5am.
At first I thought, 5am? You must be kidding!
I agreed to this time slot because it was important to spend time with my dad.
β° Dad had one rule, he said “If you are not here on time, I will leave without you“.
Happily, I never arrived late!
ππ» He ran early because in California mornings were much cooler than the rest of the day, and running early freed up the rest of the day to be productive and get things done!
β€οΈ He was a good influence and probably the reason the early morning exercise routine stuck with me, and why Iβm so incredibly productive!
Thanks Dad!
Plan in Advance!
When I first got married, my hubby and I used to hit the gym before work at 5am!
The gym clothes, shoes, and water bottles were ready to go, and so were the pre-workout snacks that we ate on the way to the gym.
Luckily the gym was close by and we arrived right before they opened the doors.
Here are a few advantages of an early morning workout:
π Better Sleep!
Having a good workout in the morning will relax your body by the time you go to bed. I know when my head hits the pillow, Iβm tired! If you suffer from lack of sleep, you may have trouble making decisions and solving problems.
βοΈ Improves Physical and Mental Energy!
After a morning workout, you feel awake and your mind will be ready to take on the business of the day. Morning exercise increases nutrients and oxygen which can boost energy and brain function, and improves focus throughout the day.
β¨ Frees up the Rest of Your Day!
Afternoon workouts are fine, but many of us like to socialize or run errands later in the day which can leave no time for exercise, that’s why it makes sense to exercise in the morning. It frees up the rest of your day.
π Creates a Positive Habit and Routine!
Creating positive habits, like morning workouts, can keep you healthy, relieve stress, and create a sense of accomplishment. It’s a good way to practice self-care, while honoring a commitment to yourself!
Motion is Lotion!
π It’s important to move our bodies each day. If I didnβt move my body every morning, I would start hurting and feel less than 100%.
𧴠In fact, I learned the term “motion is lotion” from my physical therapist and it’s so true because the body is designed to move, as movement improves body functions, promoting physical and mental health.
The more you move, the more lubrication moves through your joints.
π’οΈ Activities that keep you stretching and moving are important for maintaining flexibility and strength. It’s kind of like keeping your joints oiled.
π I like to get up daily at 5:30 AM to workout and I’m grateful to have a home gym now, so no more traveling to the gym.
β° itβs important to make time for exercise, even if it’s only 10 minutes per day.
Commitment!
Here are some great ways to get started:
β Set your workout clothes, shoes, workout snack, and water bottle out the night before, and make them easily accessible so you can get dressed quickly.
β Set your alarm clock and get up no matter what. Allow yourself enough time so you are not rushing to get ready for work.
β Take it slowly by starting with just 5 minutes each morning. When you’re comfortable, increase to 10 minutes per day. Keep doing it until you develop a routine.
π Engaging in an early morning exercise routine means your brain and body will be in great shape the rest of the day!
βοΈ Getting up early in the morning allows us to focus without interruptions, so focus on creating a healthy body!
After an early morning exercise routine, what could you focus your time on for the rest of the day?Β
