Discover the Healing Benefits of Ayurveda!
In our busy world, staying balanced and healthy can feel hard to achieve.
Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that sees each of us as unique and provides practical ways to improve our well-being and focuses on the whole person’s body, mind, and spirit.
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine, and comes from the Sanskrit words “ayur” (life) and “veda” (knowledge) emphasizing the importance of preventing illness rather than treating symptoms.
Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, the Three Doshas!
In Ayurveda, there are three Doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha that represent energies that balance our bodies and minds, and balancing them is crucial for how we look and feel and for overall well-being.
When Doshas are out of balance, it can lead to health and wellness issues.
1. Vata: Governs movement, creativity, and adaptability. When imbalanced, it can cause digestive issues as well as and anxiety. To balance Vata, it’s helpful to eat warm foods, prioritize daily habits and routines, and engaging in calming activities like meditation.
2. Pitta: Manages metabolism, intelligence, and passion. An excess of Pitta leads to skin issues and irritability. To restore balance, opt for cooling spending time in natures and meditation and avoid spicy food.
3. Kapha: Provides structure, compassion, and stability. Imbalanced Kapha leads to weight gain and lethargy. To balance Kapha, maintain an active lifestyle by keeping your body moving, engaging in regular exercise, and eat foods that are light.
Understanding your unique dosha combination and making adjustments, will promote health and well-being.
“There are a few key indicators that will help you determine which dosha, or ayurvedic body type, you are. If you tend to be more on the thin side and have a lot of energy, you are likely Vata. Pitta types tend to be of average build and have a lot of ambition and drive. Kapha types are generally heavier and have a more relaxed nature. To further determine your dosha, look at how you feel when you wake up in the morning” according to Dr. Vaidyas.
